IAs part of our ongoing Art Residency Program, we are honoured to welcome Nana Opoku Agyemang to Criss Studio.

Born and raised in Accra, Ghana, Nana Opoku Agyemang is a portrait artist and visual storyteller whose work explores Black identity, resilience and cultural memory. His intense oil paintings are marked by symbolic features, dramatic lighting and a deep emotional presence.
Each portrait becomes more than an image. It becomes a place of reflection — a space where personal stories, social challenges and collective strength meet.
At Criss Studio, we have always believed that the dining room should carry more than tables, chairs and plates. Since opening, our walls have been dedicated to emerging artists whose work can enter into quiet dialogue with the menu, the guests and the atmosphere of the room.
With Nana’s work, this dialogue becomes especially powerful. His paintings hold both tenderness and force. They speak about struggle, dignity, heritage and visibility — while reshaping narratives that are too often left unheard.
For us, his presence in the room adds another layer to the Criss Studio experience: a reminder that food, art and storytelling can all become ways of preserving memory and sharing identity.
Nana Opoku Agyemang’s work is currently on view at Criss Studio, Hamburg.
Reservations are available Thursday to Saturday evenings.
